Gonzaga Geriatric Home
It has been a recent phenomenon all over the world that the elderly people are left with no one to take care at home. It is a real problem for those couples who are employed and have old parents at home. Some parents are old and some are sickly. They need a person who can take care of them. They need a proper place, healthy food, good environment, clinics nearby, loving and caring atmosphere and where sounds of the people are heard.
Unfortunately, not many sons and daughters can afford to take care of their parents providing all these facilities. Some say they honestly have no time to take care of their parents. Our parents do all that they can to give us a better life but when they grow old and become sick they become a burden in our life. It is in this scenario a geriatric home was conceived where the old and sick people may live their last days peacefully and happily.
Gonzaga Geriatric Home
Gonzaga Geriatric Home was inaugurated 10th Nov 2015 by Superior General Rev. Sr. A. Mary Stella, and was blessed by Rt. Rev.Bp, Dr. Antony Anandarayar, the Archbishop of Puducherry-Cuddalore.
Sr. Arockia Selvi was the 1st in-charge and the 2nd in-charge was Sr. Agnes Auxilia. Both are trained nurses. In 2019 Sr. Susanna has been appointed as the superior of the community.
There are 24 rooms with attached bathroom, a big hall where all can sit and recreate. A peaceful and green environment is an added facility for the old people.
There are 4 nurses looking after the inmates. Two are sisters, and other two nurses are laity, staying in the same house.
There are 4 domestic servant to look after the cleanliness and other arrangements of the house.
The service provided to the elderly and sick is charged. It is paid accommodation and treatment.
There is ambulance for 24x7 services. If other people want to make use of this ambulance service, they can with some charge.
At present there are 16 inmates staying in geriatric home.
Even though the people pay for the service provided here, the love, care and commitment shown to the elderly and sick go as a part of the package.
